Velana International Airport (VIA) has moved their domestic flight operations to the north apron and declared the current apron would be used solely for international flights.
Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), the entity that operates VIA, said that change was made to accommodate the increasing number of international flights.
The north apron can park 25 aircraft at a time with four wide-body aircrafts. The apron was being used for private planes before the change.
An official from the MACL told One Online today that the domestics flights are being moved to the north apron temporarily to repair a half of the east apron. And with the change, the private planes are being parked at the east apron.
As the number of airlines resuming operations to the Maldives after the country reopened its borders after the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Maldives now sees a daily average of 2,800 tourists visiting the country. MACL has said that yesterday and today are two busiest days for the airport.
