He said that they would be removing the waste and cleaning the streets by the early morning Fajr prayer.

The WAMCO Managing Director further said that this is hard work for their employees who would be staying up at night to work and so requested support from the public.

The Mayor of Male’ City, Shifa Mohamed also spoke at the press conference today saying that it is a goal of the City Council to have the streets clean when schools reopen after the COVID-19 restrictions are lifted. She said that there may be challenges that comes with collecting waste at night but the Council wants to reach a solution to waste management.

Currently, WAMCO is collecting waste in the capital during the afternoon. And due to the COVID-19 situation, collections staff no longer goes into the houses to collect and so the waste has to be brought out to the street. But this has led to waste being gathered for long hours at some areas of the city.
