MET: Occasional heavy showers and thunderstorms expected during next 48 hours

Maldives Meteorological Service (MET Office) has said that fairly widespread rain with occasional heavy showers and thunderstorms are expected over the country during the next 48 hours due to a persisting trough over the region.

A statement issued by the MET Office today said that strong winds and rough seas are lively over the area between Haa Alifu Atoll and Alifu Dhaalu Atoll.

“Therefore, all are advised to be cautious of the upcoming severe weather conditions, particularly seafarers in the central and northern atolls and those who are living in the flood prone islands are advised to take precautionary measures.” The MET Office said.

The MET Office has also issued a White Yellow Alert this morning until 4 p.m. for the islands from Haa Alifu Atoll to the Thaa Atoll with the forecast of heavy rain, thunderstorms and gusts of 40 mph.
