President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has said that the percentage of local teachers needs to be raised to achieve a 'decentralized' schooling system. He said that the government would like to bring in fewer foreign teachers and instead focus on developing numbers of local teachers across the country.
The President made the remark at the inauguration ceremony of Huravee School in Hulhumale' today noting that the amount of foreign teachers working at Maldivian schools had increased by 2 per cent last year 2018, when compared to the previous year 2017.
He noted that the aim of the current administration is to educate young Maldivians and to establish a strong generation for the future. President Solih said that the way to accomplish this goal is by ensuring that each and every child that goes through the education system in Maldives is imbued with strong core religious beliefs.
