CEO of the Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO), Ismail Fauzee, has said that the company’s storage capacity would be increased to 10,500 tons at the end of the company restructure.

Speaking of Raajje TV’s “Falasurukhee” program last night, Fauzee said that the Maldivian fishing industry is not at a stage that was planned at this point and a lot of effort has to be put in to reach that goal.

He said that MIFCO stands to serve the fishermen and so somethings need to be changed for the better as it would under their restructure plan.

Fauzee said that at the end of the restructure, MIFCO’s buying capacity would be increased as well to 700 tons daily.

The CEO of MIFCO said that the number of youth coming to the fishing industry has increased and they are showing their prowess. He said that the hope is even more young people would be joining the industry with fifth generation vessels.

He said that fishing has been good recently with today only delivering 300 tons of fish to Kooddoo and 500 tons to Felivaru.

The Felivaru capacity is currently at 700 tons, said the MIFCO CEO, and said that it needs to be increased as it has been an issue for a long time.
