Spokesperson of the Health Emergency Operations Center (HEOC), Dr. Fathimath Nazla has said that the COVID-19 vaccine is the fastest developed vaccine in history.

Speaking at the HEOC press conference today on the national vaccination program, Dr. Nazla said that a vaccine is very important to control infectious diseases and a number of such diseases have been eradicated in the Maldives with successful vaccination programs.

Highlighting that the COVID-19 vaccine is a hopeful light during the pandemic, she said that it is the fastest developed vaccine in history but they too, had to go through the trials.

Dr. Nazla said that while over 200 COVID-19 vaccines are being developed across the world, there are various types of vaccines and a decision is yet to be made on what would be brought to the Maldives.

State Minister of the Health Ministry, Dr. Shaah Mahir has previously said that the most successful vaccines among those in the phase three are the Astrazeneca vaccine and the Moderna vaccine; which are also the most suitable to be brought and used in the Maldives.
