National Meteorological Service has said that the cyclonic storm in the Indian Ocean intensified and will start affecting the Maldives today.
A statement issued by the MET Office said that the Deep Depression over the Southwest of Bay of Bengal has intensified into a tropical cyclone and the storm will be cross Sri Lanka sometime today.
MET office said that a low pressure area has been formed southeast of Maldives in the Indian Ocean as well.
“Due to the combined effect from these two systems, weather is likely to deteriorate from afternoon/evening of 2 December 2020” said the MET Office and “ adverse weather including average strong winds and rough seas are expected over the country.”
The MET Office also assured that they are monitoring the situation and will be providing timely updates in that regard. Meanwhile, all are advised to follow the weather forecasts and alerts.
