The Chairman of the Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) Mohamed Zaki (AKA Nazaki Zaki) has resigned from his position.
He has confirmed the resignation to One Online.
While Zaki has resigned from his position as the Chairman of MPL, a corruption of MVR 8 million from MPL employees have surfaced recently.
The company issued a press release saying that they have launched an internal investigation and suspended some employees suspected of corruption during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The internal audit of MPL has now released a report which is requires further investigation, according to the company, and those inquiries are being made. And based on the information gathered, some employees have been suspended and removed from the work environment.
MPL said that they have reached out the Maldives Police Service and the Anti-Corruption Commission to investigate the corruption and the immediate steps are being taken to prevent a repeat of such a case.
Zaki was appointed as the Chairman of MPL on 17 February 2019. The appointment was made on a slot of the government coalition’s Adaalath Party.
