Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) has said that they have launched an investigation after corruption was noticed in some transactions by the company during the COVID-19 lock down.
A press statement issued by MPL today said that the company’s internal audit has prepared a report that an investigation is under way to inquire further into the case. And based on the information gathered so far, the employees suspected of involvement in the corruption have been suspended and removed from the workplace.
MPL said that they have reached out to the Maldives Police Service, Auditor General’s Office and the Anti-Corruption Commission to investigate the case and the necessary measures are being taken to prevent another case.
The company said that corruption is something the company takes very seriously and any employee who is involved would face the most harsh action within the company regulations.
While the MPL has said that they are investigating corruption during the lock down, the company has not revealed the details of the cases or any information of the employees that have ben suspended.
