The award is presented to celebrate and acknowledge the women’s contribution to the society and the various industries at a national level and is given in recognition of the outstanding services to national development and the development of the role of women.

The award initially introduced in 2014 and has continued annually. Last year saw the government introduced a special category with a chance for men to strive for the award as well.
