Health Minister, Ahmed Naseem has said that the people in the atolls would not have to come to the capital for ordinary treatments when the development of the tertiary hospitals have been completed.
Talking on PSM’s program covering the State Budget for 2021, Minister Naseem said that the tertiary hospitals set to build next year is going to bring a big change to the health sector. He said that the tertiary hospitals would have some form of a specialty thus reducing the number of medical travels abroad.
Health Minister Naseem said that the Maldives can become a good health provider in the region and the most important thing would be to identify the categories in which the hospitals are going to specialize. He said that a decision on the matter will be made after discussing with the relevant authorities.
The development of the tertiary hospitals is a major development program, according to the health Minister and the plan is to develop the country as a whole.
The government has decided to develop five hospitals to tertiary hospital levels in Kulhudhuffushi City in Haa Dhaalu Atoll, Raa Atoll Ungoofaaru, Gaafu Dhaalu Thinadhoo, Laamu Gan and Hithadhoo in Addu City.
