Indian Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla has revealed that the country will support to elect Maldivian Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid as the president of the United Nation's General Assembly.

He made the announcement during a meeting with Minister Shahid at the Foreign Ministry today.

Foreign Ministry confirmed that India has pledged to back Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid as the president of the United Nation's General Assembly.

In addition to this, the Indian Foreign Secretary had noted that India will give a special priority to the Maldives in the provision of the COVID-19 vaccine created by India.

COVAXINE is India's first vaccine candidate against Covid-19 and is expected to be rolled out for general use by February 2021.

Secretary Shringla's visit is upon the request of his Maldivian counterpart Abdul Gafoor Mohamed. Secretary Shringla met with President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih today and held bilateral relations with Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid and Defense Minister Mariya Ahmed Didi as well.

This marks Secretary Shringla's first official visit to the Maldives.
