A new telecom operator is set to receive license to operate in the Maldives.
The Finance Minister made the remark presenting the proposed annual state budget of MVR 34.7 billion for the year 2021 at the Parliament this morning. Minister Ameer said that to increase state revenue, some revenue policies would be amended.
He said that a frequency spectrum charge will be introduced next year along with opening the chance and licensing another telecom operator in the country and projects an income of MVR 300 million from telecom licensing fee and frequency spectrum charges.
While a decision has been made to introduce another telecom operator, MPs of MDP have criticized the service by the two telecom companies currently operating in the country, Dhiraagu and Ooredoo Maldives, and said that another company is needed in the market.
Opposition MPs have previously claimed that all agreements and decisions have already made with the Indian telecom operator, Reliance Communication, to start operating in the Maldives.
