Minister of Finance and Treasury, Ibrahim Ameer has said that it is the strong steps by the government that led to reopening the airport and restarting the economic activities.
The Finance Minister made the remark presenting the proposed annual state budget for the year 2021 at the Parliament this morning. Minister Ameer said that since the border reopened on 15 July, the following months saw hopeful signs for the economy.
He said that the international airlines have started resuming their flights to the Maldives and the private jets visiting the Maldives is on the rise as well as resorts and guesthouses have started reopening as well.
Finance Minister Ameer said that a special attention was given to promote tourism at this competitive time for the market. And to develop Velana International Airport, MVR 1.1 billion has been allocated in the annual budget.
