Former President's new political party, People’s National Congress (PNC), has submitted 4,000 membership forms to the Elections Commission.

EC authorized the formation of PNC on 27 December 2018. The request to form the new political party was submitted by the former Vice President of PPM, the MP for Fonadhoo constituency, Abdul Raheem Abdulla.

PNC said that they had acquired 3,000 members on the day they were officially authorized but they submitted the forms 12 days ago.

Talking to the press regarding the forms submitted to the Elections Commission, the MP for Fonadhoo constituency, Abdul Raheem Abdulla, said that a large number of forms have been submitted for membership of the party but they submitted 4,000 forms to speed up the registration process.

The Fonadhoo MP said that the party has over 6,000 membership forms and with 4,000 forms sent to the Commission, PNC still has over 6,000 forms pending registration.

Abdul Raheem said that the former President Yameen is currently the President of PPM and PNC will be working as a party of the former President whether he joins the party or not. He said that PNC will become the largest and strongest political party in the Maldives.
