Maldives Police Service has said that the people involved in the attempted mugging of MVR 4 million while in transit from Root to the Bank of Ceylon on 25 October 2020 have been identified and searches are being conducted for the investigation.

Assistant Commissioner of Police, Mohamed Riyaz made the remark at the Parliament Committee for National Security Committee today with the relevant authorities to address the recent spike in violence and muggings in the country and said that the four people directly involved in the attempted mugging are currently in police custody.

He said that the people who were stalking the van carrying the money have been identified and arrested and the investigation have acquired the CCTV footage of the routes they took to follow the vehicle while some locations relevant to the case have been searched as well.

The footage of the failed mugging of the Root vehicle near Bank of Ceylon show four people on two motorcycle pull up and try to grab the case containing the money.

The video also a security guard of the Bank of Ceylon successfully repel the mugging and the a man on a motorcycle passing by to stop the fleeing criminals.
