Speaker of the Parliament, former President Mohamed Nasheed has said that the Minister of Finance and Treasury, Ibrahim Ameer is going to present the annual state budget for 2021 on 9 November and the debate on the budget is set to begin on 16 November.

He made the announcement at the beginning of the parliament sitting today and said that as per regulation, received the budget but the MPs would be receiving it after the Finance Minister delivers it at the parliament.

The Speaker of the Parliament said that the MPs will be receiving a week’s notice to review the budget after it is presented on 9 November. And the budget process will be taking place at the parliament with the debate process on 16 November followed by the committee evaluation.

Speaker Nasheed said that the parliament will be working nights as well to complete the budget process and pass it in the first week of December and the parliament will go to recess.

Ministry of Finance Ministry has said that a budget of MVR 35 billion will be proposed as the annual state budget for the year 2021.
