Transport Authority has said that they will work towards converting Maldivian drivers licenses to international drivers license.

Minister of State for Transport and Civil Aviation. Ahmed Adil, spoke regrding the matter at "Ethere Faraaiy" program on VTV. He noted that, due to the one-day driver’s license program implemented during the former administration, he does not believe that the drivers' licenses issued at that time fit international standards.

Adil further spoke on the changes brought to drivers license regulations in Malaysia and said that Maldivians residing in Malaysia have contacted the Ministry and requested the standardization of Maldivian drivers licenses. He further noted that this is not something that can be accomplished in a day and reassured that the current administration is working towards a solution.

A statement released by the Maldivian embassy in Malaysia announced that the Malaysian government has stopped accepting and converting foreign drivers' licenses as part of reform by the Malaysian Ministry of Transport.
