On his official visit to the Maldives, the US Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo met with the President of the Maldives, Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

At the meeting held at the President’s Office this afternoon, the two discussed improving bilateral relations between the two countries. And the meeting saw Pompeo signing the honorary dignitary’s book.

After his meeting with President Solih, the US Secretary of State will be meeting with the Foreign Minister, Abdulla Shahid and hold official talks at Sheraton Maldives Full Moon Resort & Spa.

The talks will be followed by a joint press statement by the Maldivian Foreign Minister and US State Secretary Pompeo at 4 p.m. that would be broadcasted live by the state media.

The visit to the Maldives by the Chief Advisor on Foreign Affairs to the US President Donald J. Trump, marks the first visit to the Maldives by a US state official in 28 years. The last visit was on 4 July 1992 by then Secretary of State, James Baker.
