Human Rights Commission of Maldives (HRCM) has stated that former VP Ahmed Adeeb was taken back to prison by Maldives Correctional Service, against medical advice.

In a statement released by HRCM today, the Commission stated that on 24 October 2018, a Urologist at IGMH advised that Adeeb needs to recover in a "homely environment" for two months following his medical procedure. The statement highlighted that Correctional Service therefore went against medical advice in taking Adeeb back to prison.

HRCM stated that it is the duty of Correctional Services to comply with medical advice under the Prison and Paroles Act 14/2013. The Commission further noted that Adeeb was advised to recover at home following an emergency hospitalization on 10th November 2018.

The statement by HRCM highlighted that the 'Discharge Summary' from IGMH stated advice from Urologist - "Physical exertion for 2 months and stress free environment and family care for 6-8 weeks".
