Over 30,000 tourists have visited the Maldives since the country reopened its borders on 15 July 2020.

Noting the progress of the industry, Tourism Minister, Dr. Abdulla Mausoom thanked the Foreign Minister, Abdulla Shahid and the Foreign Affairs team for their hard work.

The Tourism Minister said that tourism sector has been increasingly progressing in the past three months since the borders were reopened.

Statistics from the ministry show 958 flight movements in the Maldives from 15 July to 18 October and 31,801 tourist visits from 15 July to 21 October. Since the borders reopened, the highest number of tourists have been visiting from Russia followed by UAE and USA.

The number of airlines operating in the Maldives have been increasing as well while the guesthouse operations have been permitted on 15 October.
