Parliamentary Committee on Independent Institutions has voted to appoint Qasim Abdul Kareem to National Integrity Commission (NIC).
Qasim is the former Bank of Maldives (BML) F. Nilandhoo branch manager who blew the whistle on the MMPRC graft scandal and brought it to the attention of everyone.
Following this, he was sentenced to eight months and 12 days in prison for violating BML’s whistleblowing policy by releasing their customer information.
He was released from prison in 2016.
