A Yellow Weather Alert has been issued to the islands from Shaviyani Atoll to Alifu Dhaalu Atoll due to severe weather.

Maldives Meteorological Service said that torrential rain and thunderstorms are expected in that area with rough seas and winds between 25 to 30 mph along with gusts of 50 mph.

The Yellow Alert would be in effect until 11:45 a.m. this morning according to the MET Office.

Weather forecast for the next 24 hours show rain across the country with thundershowers and torrential rains in the north and central atolls with scattered showers in the southern atolls. MET Office reports winds between 15 to 25 mph from west-southwest in the north and central atolls and winds between 8 to 18 mph in the southern atolls.

The MET Office has said that seas are expected to be rough in the north and central atolls and moderately rough in the southern atolls with rough seas during showers. Waves are expected between 4 to 7 feet according to the MET Office.

MET Office has advised caution during sea travel due to the current weather state.
