Maldives Meteorological Service has issued a Yellow Weather Alert to the islands from Baa Atoll to Alifu Dhaalu Atoll due to torrential rains.

The MET Office said that heavy thundershowers with average to strong winds are expected in the area between 25 to 30 mph with up to 55 mph during gusts along with rough seas.

The alert will remain effective up to 12:30 p.m. today according to the MET Office.

Weather forecast for the next 24 hours show rain across the country with thundershowers and torrential rains in a number of areas while the winds in the southern atolls are expected to be between 8 to 18 mph from south-southwest while winds between 13 to 23 mph are expected in other areas with winds up to 45 mph during gusts.

The MET Office has said that seas are expected to be moderately rough in the north and central atolls with rough seas during showers with waves between 4 to 7 feet.

MET Office has advised caution during sea travel due to the current weather state.
