Tourism Ministry has said that over 24,000 tourist beds have become operational since the Maldivian borders reopened on 15 July.

A statement from the Ministry issued today with the latest information in regards COVID-19 and how it relates to the tourism industry said that the industry have started growing since the reopening.

And so, 223 tourist establishments have now been opened and over 24, 000 beds are in service from tourist resorts, hotels and safari yachts.

The Ministry said that when local tourism opens on 15 October, tourism would see positive changes and improve the efforts to develop the industry.

When the Maldivian borders reopened on 15 July, the month saw 1,752 tourists visiting the country but the following month saw 9.838 tourists visiting the Maldives.

Tourism Ministry said that over 3,000 tourists have visited the Maldives in the first five days of this month and the total number of tourists that visited the Maldives after the border reopening have exceeded 22,000.
