In a special drug operation in Addu City by the Maldives Police Service has seized close to 80 kilograms of illegal drugs.
Commissioner of Police, Mohamed Hameed, took to Twitter this morning stating that the operation was carried out solely on locally developed intelligence and policing work.
“We will be engaging with our international partners as the investigation progresses.” The Commissioner said in his tweet, “We are intent on disrupting the supply of drugs.”
Last night, Commissioner Hameed tweeted that a major drug operation was underway in Addu City in a joint operation by the Drug Enforcement Department, Drugs Intelligence Unit, Divisional Intelligence Department, Marine Police and the South Police Division.
While he did say that multiple people were arrested with a significant amount of drugs, the Commissioner did not give any details on the number of suspects.
Upon inquiry, Police said that no details can be offered at this time as the investigation is ongoing.
