A case against Transport Minister Aishath Nahula has been submitted to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
Media Official for the ACC, Hassan Manik confirmed to "One" today that a case against the Transport Minister was submitted last night. The case was regarding repealing a regulation regarding shipping agencies without submitting to the board of Transport Authority.
As per sources, the letter sent to ACC President Mariyam Shiuna included 70 signatures of senior officials within companies across the country.
The regulation required all shipping agencies operating in the Maldives to register at the Transport Authority was published on the gazette on July 16. However, it was repealed on September 17th.
While repealing the regulation, the Ministry said that it was done so due to the issues with the regulation which were raised by industry stakeholders and to revise and further perfect the regulation. The Ministry also noted that the regulation was not in line with the international best practices and highlighted there were several technical issues with the regulation.
