Following the case of corruption involving MMPRC, Uza. Aishath Azima Shukoor has been barred from legally representing former President Abdullah Yameen regarding any charges that have been raised against him.

While former President Yameen was summoned to the Maldives Police Service on the 15th of December 2018 pending investigations regarding the MMPRC corruption, Yameen's legal counsel at the time was Uza. Azima Shukoor. Azima was also summoned to the Police shortly afterwards. She was summoned to the Police station on the charges of aiding and abetting money laundering in the case of corruption at MMPRC.

One Online has learned that Azima has been barred from being legal counsel to President Yameen due to charges raised against her in the exact same case under investigation. That is, two parties being investigated in the same legal case cannot give legal counsel to the other. Maldives Police Service also view the matter in this way.

Azima has today confirmed the matter, informing One Online "Police have informed me that I have been barred from representing President Yameen due to the MMPRC case".
