The government has decided to defer rent payments for flats under government housing projects by three additional months.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the government first offered the rent deferment option for housing projects in Male', Hulhumale' and other areas for a period of six months starting March. This period came to an end last August.
The Ministry of Housing and National Planning revealed in an announcement on Monday that many had been requesting for an extension of the deferment period. Hence, they revealed that rent payments for flats and housing units under government projects will be deferred by three additional months until November 2020.
The Ministry however noted that tenants are required to continue paying the monthly maintenance fee, and that the deferment period will be added on to the rent agreement.
Those who wish to apply for rent deferent are required to email the Ministry of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure to [email protected] with a copy of their ID card and the rent agreement reference number by October 15, before 1:00pm.
