Swiss leisure airline, Edelweiss Air, has resumed their flight operations to the Maldives after a hiatus after the Maldivian borders closed amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The airline is set to hold two weekly flights between Zurich and Velana International Airline (VIA) at the Maldivian capital.
Switzerland is an important market to the Maldivian tourism industry with a high number of tourists visiting the country. This year alone, over 9,000 Swiss tourists have visited the Maldives so far.
After three months, Maldives reopened the borders on 15 July 2020.
