Swiss Airline Edelweiss has decided to resume direct flight operations to the Maldives starting 26th September.

Edelweiss announced that the airline is resuming flight operations between Switzerland and the Maldives from 26 September 2020. The airline will operate two weekly direct flights from Zurich to Male.

Patrick Heymann, Chief Commercial Officer of Edelweiss quoted in a statement, “Over 1,200 islands in the Indian Ocean with its crystal clear water offer divers and snorkelers a breathtaking backdrop. Almost nowhere is there so much privacy as on the many beautiful, small islands,”

Switzerland ranks in the 13th highest performing market in terms of tourist arrivals to the Maldives as well as one of the important traditional markets. In 2019, Switzerland recorded a total of 33,829 tourist arrivals to the Maldives which is a 2.6% increase compared to 2018.

Since the Maldives reopened its borders in July, airlines have slowly begun resuming flights to the country.
