Opposition party, DRP, has called for the immediate release of the people that were arrested yesterday at the opposition-led motorcycle rally along with the former President, Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.
Calling for the release, DRP today said that they condemn the MDP-led government for suppressing the freedom of expression by using COVID-19 as an excuse.
Leader of the DRP and MP for Kaashidhoo constituency, Abdulla Jabir took to Twitter today calling for the immediate release of the people arrested yesterday and the former President.
At the motorcycle rally yesterday, Maldives Police Service arrested 41 people and towed numerous vehicles. Police said that the arrests were made for violating the Health Protection Agency (HPA) guidelines during the state of health emergency.
Opposition parties PPM and PNC has called for the release as well along with the former President Dr. Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik, who is now working with the opposition.
