Male’ Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC) has said that there are customers who have not paid their water bills for 148 months.

Speaking on RaajjeTV’s “Fala Surukhee” program last night, the Managing Director of MWSC, Hassan Shah said that there are customers who have not paid their bills for many years and it is a major concern.

He said that there are customers with “148 pending bills, that sums to 148 months and that is about five years.”

Shah said that the unpaid bills are being reviewed and attended case by case and sorting customers with 100-150 pending bills, 50-100 pending bills and 2-5 bills pending.

He said that while water service has been suspended for some of these customers, they have stopped doing that during the COVID pandemic.

The Managing Director of MWSC said that they are also offering repayment plans including one that waives off the fines if the repayment can be made before 16 March 2021.

He also addressed the complaints of a high water bill saying that when physical reading collection was stopped amid the COVID lock down, the company made an estimate of the bill based of the use of the past three months which resulted in a high average for some customers and a low average for customers. However, those who filed complaints of a high water bill was reviewed and adjustments were made.
