The state of Public Health Emergency in the Maldives has been extended till October 6th.

By the discretionary powers vested in the Minister of Health by Section 33 of the 7/2012 Public Health Act the Health Minister first declared a State of Public Health Emergency for a period of 30 days on 12th March.

On August 7th, the period was extended until September 6th.

Housing Minister Mohamed Aslam who is currently heading the Health Ministry noted that the risk of infection in the Maldives is still very real and that the state of public health emergency continues. He added that the Director General of Public Health has proposed that several measures need to be taken to control the spread of the virus.

The document signed by Minister Aslam stated that due to these reasons, the Public Health Emergency that was declared in March will now be extended by an additional month, till October 6th.
