A 39-year-old man who violated home quarantine in Kaafu Atoll Guraidhoo has been fined with MVR 2,500.
This is the first time a person has been fined under Article 13-B of the Quarantine and Isolation Act. The new amendment added to the Act on Sunday states that if a person violates quarantine regarding COVID-19, that person can be fined with MVR 5,000.
And so, first offenders face a fine of MVR 2,500, MVR 3,500 second offence and a fine of MVR 5,000 for each offence after the third. The fines are set to be implemented by the police the Island Councils at the islands without a police presence.
Maldives Police Service has advised those who are being quarantined and isolated to follow the law.
