Defence Minister, Mariya Ahmed Didi, has said that there are great benefits to the connection between the Maldives and India.

The Minister of Defence has made the statement at a time where allegations have been made against the Maldivian government alleging that the government has sold a portion of the country to India and a social media hashtag of “India Out” is trending.

Indicating to the social media uproar, Minister Mariya took to Twitter last night saying that the relationship with India is going to have socio-economic benefits to the Maldives.

In her tweet, the Defence Minister noted the aid from India including the support from India during the attack on the Maldives on 3 November 1988 and the provided in the Water Crisis during the Yameen presidency.

She said that the relationship between Maldives and India are very clear to the people.
