President of the Commission Investigating Deaths and Disappearances, Mr. Husnu Suood says that he does not believe that justice will be served under the current judges placed at Criminal Court.
Briefing the press at a press conference held by the commission regarding investigation of deaths and disappearances, Mr. Husnu Suood said that although the commission will do everything in its power to conduct a fair investigation, unless the judicial system is reformed, he does not believe that justice will be served.
Emphasizing his lack of confidence in the Criminal Court of Maldives, Mr. Suood said that if the cases investigated are conducted under the correct judicial proceedings, justice will be served without delay.
The President of the 'Deaths and Disappearances' Commission also assured that investigations will be conducted through thoroughly inspecting the evidence and testimony of cases.
"There is no reason not to talk about this" Suood said. "Take for instance, the cases passing through the Criminal Court such as that of violence between two gangs. Such cases, while they are still in legal proceedings have been settled through out of court statements with the collaboration of both concerning gangs. This leads to the changing of witness testimony and then the conflict between two gangs comes to a standpoint and the issues, resolved"
Suood further said "The way the case is resolved is that both concerning gangs collaborate to alter or suppress witness testimony so that the court sentence states that the case has not been able to prove criminal acts."
President of the investigative Commission stated that the path to justice is dismantled due to such reasons. Suood has also alleged that there is a collusion among gangs and the Judges of Criminal Court.
