Former President, Maumoon Abdul Gayoom has said that he is in good health and thanked the well-wishers for the prayers for his health.

The now 83-year-old former President took to Twitter to announce that he had tested positive for COVID-19. He is admitted for treatment at Dharumavantha Hospital.

In a tweet today, President Maumoon said thanked his friends and all well-wishers for the prayers for his health and he prays for their health. The former President said that he is in good health.

His daughter and Minister of Arts Culture and Heritage, Yumna Maumoon also took to twitter confirming that the former President is in good health and said that the symptoms are minimal. However, she did not offer any further details.

There has been an out-pour of well-wishes to the former President following the announcement.

President Maumoon is in the high-risk category as COVID-19 is especially dangerous for the elderly and people with pre-existing conditions, according to experts.

So far, it is unclear as to how the former President got infected or if anyone else in the family is infected.
