Two people have tested positive for COVID-19 in Vaavu Atoll Thinadhoo.

Health Protection Agency (HPA) said that the two people who tested are a man and a woman, both 36-year-old. They were confirmed positive when they were tested before being released from home quarantine.

Deputy Director of the Health Ministry, Thasleema Usman, told One Online that the two people who tested positive in Thinadhoo were in home quarantine at the same house.

Vaavu Atoll Thinadhoo was placed under lock down in March after a man on the island was suspected to have COVID-19. However, the lock down was lifted when the man tested negative. And so, this is the first reported cases of COVID-19 from the island.

With a recent spike of COVID-19 cases in the atolls, there are cases in 19 islands aside from the capital Male’ City.

As of yesterday, the COVID-19 cases have been reported from Filladhoo and Ihavandhoo in Haa Alifu Atoll, Naavaidhoo and Kurimbi in Haa Dhaalu Atoll, Noonu Atoll Miladhoo, Kamadhoo and Kudarikilu in Baa Atoll, Raa Atoll Hulhudhuffaaru, Lhaviyani Atoll Naifaru, Thulusdhoo and Hinmafushi in Kaafu Atoll, Alifu Dhaalu Maamigili, Faafu Atoll Nilandhoo, Vaavu Atoll Keyodhoo, Madifushi and Vilufushi in Thaa Atoll, Fuvahmulah City along with Hithadhoo and Feydhoo in Addu City.
