Speaker of the Parliament, former President Mohamed Nasheed has sent a case to the parliament committee for independent institutes to investigate the carelessness of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) in looking into the violations of the law and regulations by the Health Ministry in the process of bringing ventilators to the country to support the efforts against COVID-19.
Speaking during the parliament session today, Speaker Nasheed said that the ACC had released a report after conducting research into the compliance report by the Auditor General. He noted that the ACC report did not find anything in the same context as the AG report.
He stressed that while the ACC report was compiled, it was clear that the state had already made the payment to the Dubai company to procure the ventilators as detailed in the AG report. Highlighting the lack of this information in the ACC report, Speaker Nasheed noted that the payment was made in April while the ACC report came out on May 21st.
Speaker Nasheed also added that from the way ACC President talked during a committee meeting earlier in May, it was clear that they had not conducted a proper investigation into the matter and had a different approach to the AG report.
Hence he stressed that the issue should be further inquired by the committee.
