A movement has started gathering signatures to take a no confidence vote against the Minister of Economic Affairs, Fayyaz Ismail.

Some MPs of Minister Fayyaaz's MDP has confirmed this to One Online.

A senior official and MP for the party told One Online that the movement is being lead by the President of MDP and Speaker of the Parliament, former President Mohamed Nasheed and the President of the MDP Parliamentary Group, Ali Azim.

The signature of 10 MPs are required to start a motion of no confidence against a cabinet member and should be voted for by the majority of the parliament for such a motion to pass. A 14-day notice should also be given to the minister in question before the motion is debated in the Parliament.

One MP who spoke with "One" also added that it has been a while since the works of submitting such a motion began.

It is as of yet unclear what catalyzed the motion of no confidence against Fayyaz Ismail, who remains as one of the closest and most influential ministers in the cabinet of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
