President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has appointed Dr. Abdulla Mausoom as the new Minister of Tourism.

Spokesperson of the President’s Office, Ibrahim Hood announced on Twitter that the appointment was made today and was presented with the letter of appointed.

Vice President of Jumhoory Party and former MP for Kelaa constituency, Dr. Mausoom was a Minister of Tourism during the Presidency of Maumoon Abdul Gayoom and has experience in the field.

Dr. Mausoom acquired his doctorate at the School of Publicity at the Birmingham University in the UK to become the first Maldivian to get a Ph.D. in Tourism Development. He also has a Master’s Degree in Hotel Management and worked as the General Manager of the largest tourist resort in the Maldives, Sun Island.

His was recently the Maldivian Ambassador to Singapore and was the non-resident Ambassador to the Commonwealth of Australia and the non-resident Ambassador to New Zealand.

A new Minister of Tourism has been appointed almost a month later after the previous Tourism Minister, Ali Waheed was deposed following allegations of sexual harassment of his employees at the Ministry, on 9 July.

Since then, the Economic Minister, Fayyaz Ismail was temporary in charge of the Tourism Ministry.
