Health Ministry has said that it is not photos circulating on social media claiming to be the office of the Health Minister, Abdulla Ameen, is not true as it is the Ministry’s conference room.

The Ministry said that the photos show not Minister Ameen’s office but the Ministry’s conference room where the Ministry’s events are held and to be rented for outside events.

“The Health Ministry building’s ninth floor conference room is named Moonima Haleem Hall. It is named after the first female Health Minister of the Maldives.” The Ministry said.

The purpose of building the conference room is hold their events, according to the Health Ministry and is intended to cut costs as it is expensive to rent places to hold events.

Health Ministry did not say when the conference room was built or how much was spent on it.

Following the Health Ministry’s response, the Vice President of PNC and the former MP for Baarah constituency, Ibrahim Shujau has heavily criticized the Ministry. He said that the people are not being tested for COVID-19, without money and hungry, and it would have been better to spend that money on the people.

The PNC Vice President said that the committee for theft from COVID funds can investigate such matters that put the people at risk but President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih still remains silent.
