Government offices are to remain closed throughout the week in an attempt to control the recent spike in new COVID-19 cases.

The President's Office revealed today that President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has decided to keep government offices closed till next Thursday, in an attempt to control the recent surge in COVID-19 cases. During this period, offices are encouraged to implement work from home policies.

The President has also ordered to provide government services online, where possible.

During the lockdown, government offices were closed for an extended period too. Offices reopened officially in June.

The decision by President Solih comes at a time with a surge in COVID-19 cases, with the Maldives reporting it's highest single day increase with 215 cases yesterday.
