President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has said that it would not be ideal to go to another lock down.

In a tweet sent out today, President Solih advised to wear masks in public as the number of people testing positive for COVID-19 are on the rise and called to follow the instructions of the Health Protection Agency (HPA).

The number of people testing positive for COVID-19 in the Maldives began to rise late last month with 215 people confirmed positive yesterday alone; the highest number of people confirmed positive for COVID-19 in the Maldives in a single day.

With the increased number of cases, the number of Maldivians testing positive have started to rise as well.

Regarding the current situation, the Health Minister, Abdulla Ameen said that the government does not hope to go back to a full lock down but will be taking actions appropriately.

So far 18 people have passed away due to complications with COVID-19 in the Maldives; 13 locals, four Bangladeshi nationals and a Philippine national.
