President of MRM and the former President of the Maldives, Maumoon Abdul Gayoom has called on the authorities to bring those who spat on police officers to justice.
Commissioner of Police, Mohamed Hameed has said that the Maldives Police Service is investigating the case of spitting on two police officers at the protest rally by the opposition coalition last night.
The former President shared the Police Commissioner’s tweet this morning and said that he “condemn this uncivilized and indecent act. The perpetrators must be brought to justice.”
Opposition coalition has been protesting recently, every night. Last night’s rally was dispersed by the police with the use of pepper spray. Many have raised concerns on social media that the opposition rally violates social distancing rules and the HPA guideline on maximum number of people at gathering that could lead further spread of COVID-19.
