Architects Association of Maldives (AAM) has stated that the flats constructed under 'Hiyaa' project violate the construction code in the city.
The association made this statement in a report highlighting their findings after an investigation into the 16 towers of social housing built under the project.
As such the report stated that some aspects violated the planning guideline in Hulhumale as well as social housing development guidelines in Hulhumale'.
One aspect of this as stated in the report is the railings in the corridors. AAM said that the two feet long railings are secured on a small wall that is about two feet as well will be a risk for children since they can climb on the wall base itself.
Other things highlighted in this report include lack of proper signage in basement parking, dangerously low barriers and insufficient parking spaces. The buildings also lack proper waste management systems as none of the 25 floors have a refuse room for trash apart from the ground floor as well as proper security systems to ensure the safety of the building and its residents.
The report also questioned whether the 10 percent ventilation as stated in the guideline was met or not.
