Male’ City Mayor, Shifa Mohamed, has said that the Health Protection Agency (HPA) and the Maldives Police Service have the authority to stop the small markets being operated in various parts of the city.

Mayor Shifa has made the remark after businesses at the Traveler’s Market and the Local Market have raised concern that the small markets are affecting their business.

In a tweet sent out today, the Mayor said that the only registered markets in Male’ City are the Traveler’s Market, Local Market and the Fish Market. And those places are permitted for Maldivian businesses only.

Mayor Shifa said that there are other small markets being operated in various parts of the city and the HPA and the Police does have the authority to shut them down.
