The captain of a boat traveling between Male’ City and Kelaa in Haa Alifu Atoll has tested positive for COVID-19.
Vice President of the Kelaa Island Council, Aminath Ismail told One Online that the captain is a middle-age man and mostly recently returned from Male’ to Kelaa two days ago however, it is difficult to say how long he was in Male’ City.
He was confirmed positive after being tested due to fever and cold. The Kelaa Councilwoman said that the first sample tested negative and a second sample was taken to verify, which tested positive.
She said that the person who tested positive is currently in quarantine and while the contact tracing has been completed, it is difficult to say how many people have come in contact.
The Kelaa Council is working with the Health Protection Agency (HPA) to place precautionary measures but the island is currently not brought to a monitoring status.
