The Parliament has decided to remove Mohamed Zahid from his position as the Vice President of the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM).
The committee finalized to dismiss all four members apart from member Naiveen Abdulla from the five-member commission and submitted the decision to the parliament floor for further progress.
President Aminath Enas and member Aishath Afreen had previously resigned after they refused to cooperate with the probe into HRCM by the committee. Member Moosa Ali Kaleyfaan also tendered his resignation after the committee moved to dismiss Vice President Mohamed Zahid and member Moosa Ali Kaleyfaan.
A total of 61 MPs voted in favor of unseating Zahid from the post because of persistent misinformation on the murdered blogger Yamin Rasheed. He is also accused of obstructing legislative research. In the case of missing journalist Ahmed Rilwan, incompetence is another explanation for his dismissal too.
Parliament determined Zahid was unfit to serve in the post because of the vast number of cases of wrongdoing against him. Parliament also had been moving until they resigned to remove three other members from the Commission.
